The five pillars.
Narrated by Ibn ʿUmar (ابن عمر)
"Islam is built on five: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; the establishment of prayer; the paying of zakāt; the pilgrimage to the House; and fasting Ramadan."
A foundational hadith. The scholars noted the order: testimony first (the inner commitment), then prayer (daily practice), then zakāt and pilgrimage (the social and communal), then fasting (annual discipline). The structure itself is a teaching — Islam is a building, and a building has levels.

"The hadith, Islam is built on five, is reported by both Bukhari and Muslim, based on the narration of Ibn Umar. Chapter, The Types of Zakat and the Reasons for Their Obligation Zakat is categorized into six types, zakat on livestock, zakat on gold and silver, zakat"

"must precede Hajj. Thirdly, Umrah should occur during the months of Hajj. Fourthly, one must not return to the Meccat or an equivalent distance to assume Iram for Hajj. Fifthly, Hajj and Umrah must be for the same person. If these conditions are met, one is performing"

"Hajj Ahmad Tabrizi, Hajj Ibrahim Kanawi, Hajj Hussain Khorasani, and the two Hajjas Ali and Rashid al-Hindia, among others. Then I traveled from Granada to Al-Hama, then to Velez, then to Malaga, and then to the fortress of Daquan, a beautiful fort abundant with"

"If unable to earn or possess wealth, he should request others for zakat or charity for his pilgrimage. If he dies before performing hajj, he dies as a sinner. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, Whoever dies without performing hajj, may he die as"
More on foundations
- The first hadith — the inner measure of every deed."Actions are only by intentions, and every person shall have only what they intended."
- The religion in three words: Islam, Īmān, Iḥsān."Islam is that you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, establish the prayer, give zakāt, fast Ramadan, and make pilgrimage to the House if you are able. Īmān is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in divine decree — its good and its bitter. Iḥsān is that you worship Allah as though you see Him; and if you do not see Him, He sees you."
- The soul and the decree written in the womb."The creation of each of you is gathered in the womb of their mother for forty days as a drop, then a clinging thing for the same period, then a lump of flesh for the same period. Then the angel is sent, who breathes the soul into it, and is commanded to write four things: its provision, its term of life, its deeds, and whether it will be wretched or blessed."
- Innovation in the religion is returned to its introducer."Whoever introduces into this matter of ours something that is not from it — it is rejected."
