Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Joyful Muslims (EMV-registered, CVR 46387996) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Joyful Muslims Audiobook application (the "App") or this website.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account in the App, we collect your name, email address, and a unique user identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive only the information Apple provides based on your choices (which may include a private relay email).
Usage Data
We collect listening progress, bookmarks, and interaction data to provide features like "Continue Listening" and reading streaks. This data is linked to your account and used solely for app functionality.
Purchase History
We record your subscription tier and any one-time in-app purchases to manage your entitlements. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store your payment details.
Device Information
We collect basic device information (device type, OS version) for compatibility and crash reporting.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's core features (listening, progress sync, bookmarks)
- To manage your subscription and entitlements
- To power JM Scholar AI responses. Your message text, and (when available) the title of the book you are listening to, are sent through our servers to the third-party AI providers listed in Section 5 to generate the reply. We do not send your name, email, Apple ID, payment information, or audio to these providers. Conversations are retained on our servers only for the duration necessary to provide follow-up context, and can be deleted via Settings → Delete Account.
- To send push notifications you have opted into (streak reminders, new book alerts)
- To improve the App based on aggregate, anonymised usage patterns
3. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
- We do not show advertising inside the App.
- We do not share your personal data with data brokers or marketing partners.
- We do not store your Apple ID password or payment information.
We do use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) and third-party ad-measurement tools to understand which marketing campaigns introduce people to Joyful Muslims — but only after you grant permission, and only to measure our own campaigns (never to show ads in the App or to sell your data). See Section 5.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. Listening progress and account data are transmitted over HTTPS. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following external services to operate the App. Each is listed with the specific data category we share and why.
- Apple StoreKit: Subscription and purchase management. Handled entirely by Apple — we receive only the transaction ID and entitlement status.
- Apple Push Notification Service: Optional notifications. Opt-in only.
- Cloudflare R2 & Pages: Audio and content delivery, website hosting. Standard HTTP request logs only (IP, user-agent) and then discarded per Cloudflare's retention policy.
- Anthropic, PBC (Claude): Large language model used to generate JM Scholar AI responses and to assist with translation drafting. When you send a JM Scholar message, the prompt text and (when available) the current book's title are transmitted to Anthropic. Anthropic does not use data submitted via their API to train their models. Anthropic privacy policy →
- OpenAI, L.L.C. (GPT-4): Used in translation drafting and verification workflows. Same data-minimisation principles apply: only the material needed to generate the translation is sent. OpenAI does not use data submitted via their API to train their models. OpenAI privacy policy →
- Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook / Instagram): Advertising-campaign measurement. If you grant tracking permission, your advertising identifier (IDFA) and aggregate events (such as install, sign-up, and subscription) are shared with Meta so we can measure which Meta ad campaigns introduce people to the App. Meta privacy policy →
- Google LLC (Firebase / Google Analytics for Firebase, Google Ads): The same advertising-campaign measurement purpose, and likewise only after you grant tracking permission. Google privacy policy →
App Tracking Transparency & advertising measurement. Shortly after first launch, iOS asks for your permission to track. If you allow it, we use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) together with the Meta and Google/Firebase tools above — and Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork — solely to measure which advertising campaigns lead to installs and subscriptions. We do not show ads inside the App, and we do not sell your data. If you decline, advertising measurement is turned off and nothing else about the App changes. Our own product analytics are first-party and anonymised; you can opt out in Settings → Privacy.
Your consent to AI data sharing is collected in-app before any message is sent to a third-party AI provider (Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.2(i)). You can revoke this consent at any time in Settings → Privacy → "JM Scholar AI". The rest of the App — listening, downloads, StudyKit, progress sync — continues to work when Scholar is disabled.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is designed for users aged 13 and above. We do not direct the service to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please email [email protected]. We will promptly verify and delete the information and any associated account.
Within the European Union, the minimum age for valid consent to process personal data is 16 in some Member States (13 in others). Where a stricter age applies, users below that age must obtain verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian before creating an account or enabling personalised features.
In all cases:
- We do not show advertising inside the App.
- We do not knowingly collect data from, or enable advertising measurement for, anyone we know to be under 13.
- We do not share personal data with data brokers or marketing partners.
- Push notifications require explicit opt-in; no notifications are sent to accounts without active consent.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
As a Denmark-based company, we comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by email.
