Short (≈50 words)
Joyful Muslims is a Danish-registered publisher reviving the classical Islamic canon as free English audiobooks — works like al-Ghazālī’s Iḥyāʾ ʿUlūm al-Dīn, Ibn Kathīr’s Stories of the Prophets, and Ibn Baṭṭūṭa’s Riḥla, translated in-house from the original Arabic and narrated for the English-speaking Ummah. Free to start on iPhone and Android. joyfulmuslims.com
Long (≈160 words)
Joyful Muslims is an independent, Danish-registered publisher (CVR 46387996) on a mission to preserve the classical Sunni scholarly canon — tafsīr, hadith, fiqh, sīrah, and taṣawwuf — in audio, free for the English-speaking world. For a thousand years these texts lived only in Arabic; a generation grew up hearing about the tradition but never hearing it. Joyful Muslims closes that gap: every work is translated in-house from the original Arabic manuscripts, cross-checked against printed critical editions, reviewed by named scholars, and narrated in clear, natural English. The app pairs each book with a word-synced Arabic-and-English transcript (the Living Manuscript) so listeners can read along, and adds self-paced Masterclasses on the great works. A new audiobook is published every week, and the whole library is free to begin. Available on iPhone and Android.
Founder
Ahmed El Shahhat is the founder and sole proprietor of Joyful Muslims, registered in Denmark (CVR 46387996). He started the project to make the classical Islamic library — long locked inside Arabic and academic editions — something an English speaker could simply press play on.
