Morning & Evening

Asbaḥnā — morning remembrance
Upon wakingأَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
"We have entered the morning, and the whole kingdom belongs to Allah. Praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the kingdom, to Him is the praise, and He is over all things capable."

Amsaynā — evening remembrance
At sunsetأَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
"We have entered the evening, and the whole kingdom belongs to Allah. Praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the kingdom, to Him is the praise, and He is over all things capable."

Āyat al-Kursī
The verse of the throneاللَّهُ لاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ، لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ، لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ، مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ
"Allah — there is no god but He, the Living, the Sustainer. No drowsiness overtakes Him, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could intercede with Him except by His permission?"

The Three Quls
Morning, evening, before sleepقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ‧ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ ‧ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
"Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq, and an-Nās — the last three surahs of the Qurʾan. Recited three times each, morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ taught."

Bismika Allāhumma — before sleep
Laying down to sleepبِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."

Al-ḥamdu lillāh — upon waking
Upon wakingالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
"Praise is for Allah, who gave us life after He had caused us to die; and to Him is the resurrection."

Prayer

The opening supplication of prayer
After takbīr, before al-Fātiḥahسُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَىٰ جَدُّكَ، وَلاَ إِلَٰهَ غَيْرُكَ
"Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise. Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god besides You."

Allāhumma bāʿid — after takbīr
Alternative opening supplicationاللَّهُمَّ بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ، اللَّهُمَّ نَقِّنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ
"O Allah, distance me from my sins as You have distanced the east from the west. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt."

At-Taḥiyyāt — the tashahhud
Sitting in prayerالتَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَىٰ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
"All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."

Repentance

Sayyid al-Istighfār
The master of seeking forgivenessاللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
"O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I abide by Your covenant and Your promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You."

Astaghfirullāh
After every prayer, and throughout the dayأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ
"I seek the forgiveness of Allah."

The duʿāʾ of Mūsā after his slipرَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي
"My Lord, I have wronged myself — so forgive me."

Rabbanā ẓalamnā — the duʿāʾ of Adam
The template of sincere repentanceرَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
"Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers."

Distress

Lā ilāha illā anta — in distress
The duʿāʾ of Yūnus in the belly of the fishلاَ إِلَٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
"There is no god but You — glory be to You! I have indeed been among the wrongdoers."

Ḥasbunā Allāh
When overwhelmedحَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
"Allah is enough for us, and the best of those who are trusted."

Allāhumma lā sahl — when a task is hard
Facing a difficult matterاللَّهُمَّ لاَ سَهْلَ إِلاَّ مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزَنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً
"O Allah, nothing is easy except what You have made easy. And You make what is hard — if You will — easy."

Innā lillāhi — upon receiving bad news
On hearing of loss or trialإِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
"Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in this trial, and replace it for me with something better."

Daily Life

Entering the home
Crossing the thresholdبِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَىٰ اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
"In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we rely."

Stepping outsideبِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah."

Sighting the crescentاللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالأَمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلاَمَةِ وَالإِسْلاَمِ
"O Allah, let it rise over us with security, with faith, with peace, and with Islam."

Rabbanā ātinā — the universal duʿāʾ
Any timeرَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
"Our Lord, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire."

Travel

Subḥāna alladhī — starting a journey
When setting outسُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
"Glory is to the One who has subjected this to us, for we could never have accomplished it ourselves. And truly, to our Lord we will return."

Allāhumma Rabba as-samāwāt — entering a town
Upon reaching an unfamiliar placeاللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظْلَلْنَ، وَرَبَّ الأَرَضِينَ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَقْلَلْنَ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا
"O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and what they cover, Lord of the seven earths and what they carry — I ask You for the good of this town and the good of its people."

Knowledge

Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā
Seeking increase in knowledgeرَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
"My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

Rabbi shraḥ lī ṣadrī
Before speaking, teaching, or a hard conversationرَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي، وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي، وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
"My Lord, open my chest for me, ease my task, and loosen the knot from my tongue so they understand what I say."

Beneficial knowledge
After Fajr prayerاللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً
"O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, wholesome provision, and deeds that are accepted."
