The classical canon in English audio: the 2026 census
Eleven centuries of Islamic scholarship produced a canon the whole world studies — yet almost none of it can be heard in English. We checked 12 major classical works against Audible, Apple, Spotify, OverDrive, the Internet Archive, YouTube, and the specialist Islamic apps. This page is the result: what exists, what half-exists, and what exists nowhere at all. Every cell was verified in August 2026; we refresh the census annually and correct it on evidence — if we missed an edition, tell us and we will credit it.

How the census was run.
In August 2026 we ran five parallel verification passes across the platforms where an English audiobook could plausibly live: the commercial stores (Audible, Apple Books, Google Play Books, OverDrive/Libby), the open archives (archive.org, LibriVox), the podcast platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify), YouTube, and the specialist Islamic audiobook apps. "Complete" means the full work as published, not excerpts, lectures about the text, or abridgements. Where anything at all exists — a volunteer reading, a partial series, a commercial edition — we say so and credit it, because a census you can check is the only kind worth citing.
