Ahsan al-Qasas
Definition
Ahsan al-qasas — 'the most beautiful of stories' — is the Quran's own description of the story of Yusuf in Surah Yusuf (12:3), making it the only prophetic narrative in the Quran that receives this kind of self-referential praise from the text itself. Ibn Kathir understands this title as indicating that the story encompasses the full range of human experience — betrayal, slavery, temptation, false accusation, imprisonment, power, reunion, and forgiveness — in a perfectly structured arc that begins with a child's dream and ends with its complete fulfillment. The 'beauty' is not merely aesthetic but theological: it is the beauty of divine wisdom made visible across a human lifetime.
