Armiya
Definition
Armiya — the Prophet Jeremiah — witnessed and mourned the catastrophic destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar (Bukhtunassar) as divine punishment for the Israelites' persistent corruption, idolatry, and murder of their prophets. Ibn Kathir's account of Armiya is one of the most emotionally intense sections of this volume: a prophet who had spent his life warning his people of consequences they refused to believe, and who then lived to see every warning fulfilled. His grief over Jerusalem's destruction did not, however, produce despair — Armiya continued to trust in Allah's promise that the land would be restored. His story is the prophetic model of loving a community enough to speak difficult truth, even when that truth is rejected until it arrives in devastating fact.
