Ikhbāt
Ikhbat — humble submission and genuine contrition — is the inner quality that ghurur prevents and that the cure for ghurur produces. The person of ikhbat approaches Allah with no illusions about their own state: they know their vices, acknowledge their failures, and make no claim to a spiritual level they have not genuinely reached. This contrition is not depression or hopelessness — the person of ikhbat can simultaneously acknowledge their failures and trust in divine mercy — but it is the honest recognition of the gap between where one is and where one should be. This honest recognition is the beginning of all genuine spiritual progress.
As understood in the classical tradition of Imam al-Ghazali and the scholars of his school.
