Istiqāmah
استقامةDefinition
Straightness and consistency — described by the scholars al-Nawawi quotes as the greatest karāmah of all. Istiqāmah means remaining consistently on the straight path across different moods, seasons, circumstances, and pressures — not the dramatic spiritual breakthrough but the undramatic steady faithfulness that constitutes the highest form of nearness to Allah. Al-Nawawi presents it as more spiritually significant than any visible miracle, because a single miracle requires only a moment while istiqāmah requires an entire lifetime of deliberate, consistent choosing of Allah over everything else. The Prophet's most frequent supplication — 'O Turner of hearts, keep our hearts firm on Your religion' — makes this the permanent prayer of every believer who understands what is at stake.

"الثاني هو معرفة أن الاستقامة تتبع الثقة. لا يمكن تحقيق الاستقامة في الكلام والفعل والحالة بدون الثقة في صحة المعرفة، المستمدة من نور النبوة. بدون هذه الثقة، لا توجد ثقة ولا استقامة. الثالث هو معرفة أن الأدلة تأتي بعد الحجة. الأدلة تعني التوضيح وتجلي الحق، الذي يحدث بعد إقامة الحجة، مما يجعل الحق واضحًا وجليًا. هناك معنى آخر: عندما يقبل العبد حجة اللّٰه بإيمان خالص، واستسلام، وامتثال، يؤدي هذا القبول إلى توضيحها وكشفها لقلبه."
