Jalut

Jalut — Goliath — was the massive warrior-king who led the Philistine army against the Israelites in one of the most asymmetric confrontations in biblical history. His physical stature and martial reputation had paralyzed the entire Israelite army before the young Dawud stepped forward with a shepherd's sling and a single stone. Ibn Kathir uses Jalut's defeat to establish one of the Quran's most consistent themes: worldly power, however impressive, is not the determining factor in any confrontation. The believer who acts in obedience to divine command, even when vastly outmatched by worldly metrics, is supported by a power that no army can match. Jalut's fall was not a military upset but a theological statement.
