Layla al-Qadr
Definition
Laylat al-Qadr is the night described in the Quran as better than a thousand months — the night in which the Quran was first revealed, hidden in the last ten odd nights of Ramadan. Al-Ghazali presents the seeking of Laylat al-Qadr as the spiritual climax of the entire month: just as the month of Ramadan is the peak of the year for worship, and the last ten nights are the peak of Ramadan, Laylat al-Qadr is the peak of those nights. The believer who has fasted properly for the first twenty days arrives at the last ten with a purified heart that is genuinely more capable of the worship and supplication that the Night of Power demands.
