"son of Sultan Salah al-Din. According to their custom, when a stranger arrives and goes to the majlis, which they call the house, he must bring two garments. He presents one to the Sultana's service, casting it aside, then serves her minister, her husband Jamal al-Din, discarding the other. Her army consists of about a thousand strangers and some locals. They come to the house every day, serve, and leave. Their salary is rice given to them from the port every month."
