Makan Aliyyan
Definition
Makan aliyyan — a high station or lofty place — is the Quranic description of the rank to which Allah raised Idris. The Arabic carries both spatial and spiritual connotations: it refers to an elevation that is simultaneously physical (in the heavens) and spiritual (in divine esteem). Scholars differ on whether this describes a physical elevation to the celestial realms or an exalted spiritual rank, and Ibn Kathir presents both interpretations from the classical scholarship without arbitrarily choosing. The deliberate ambiguity of the Quranic language may itself be intentional — preserving the mystery of a figure who seems to have transcended the ordinary boundaries of prophetic experience.
