Najāsa
Definition
Najasa refers to the categories of physical substance that, when they come into contact with the body or clothing, invalidate prayer until they are removed. Al-Ghazali lists them carefully — blood, urine, excrement, wine, and others — while also pointing the reader to the spiritual significance: the outward concern for avoiding filth in worship should train a corresponding vigilance toward the inner impurities of sin, hypocrisy, and corrupt intention, which render the heart unsuitable for the nearness to Allah that prayer seeks.
