Namīma
Definition
Namima is the sin of carrying reports from one person to another in a way that causes strife, damages relationships, or exposes what people have said privately about each other. The Prophet ﷺ identified the tale-bearer as someone who will not enter paradise, and al-Ghazali explains why: namima is a specific attack on the social fabric of trust and goodwill that community depends on. The tale-bearer may speak only the truth, but their selective disclosure of truth is a weapon — they choose what to report, to whom, and when, specifically to produce the conflict or the damage that serves their agenda.
