Sīra
Sira refers to the biography of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — the detailed account of his life from birth to death, preserved by the companions and their successors and transmitted to every generation of Muslims. Al-Ghazali insists that studying the sira is not merely historical interest but a spiritual obligation: the Muslim who does not know the Prophet's ﷺ life in detail cannot truly follow his example, cannot recognise in the events of daily life the parallel situations that the sira addresses, and cannot feel the love for the Prophet ﷺ that genuine knowledge of his character produces in every sincere heart.
As understood in the classical tradition of Imam al-Ghazali and the scholars of his school.
