How the scholars use Sulayman.

  1. "There is another account involving Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, who was once sitting with al-Zuhri when a man approached him and said, "Sulayman, I've heard that you spoke about me and said such and such. The man denied it, but Sulayman insisted, "The one who informed me is truthful. Al-Zuhri interjected, "No talebearer is truthful. Sulayman agreed and told the man, "Go in peace.""

    — Imam al-Ghazali, Book 24: Evils of the Tongue

  2. "them nor can they. Indeed they are from its hearing excluded. Al-Hafiz ibn Asakir mentioned that Sulayman son of Dawud was a prophet of Allah descended from a noble lineage. It is said in some narrations that he entered Damascus. Ibn Makula noted his lineage similarly to Ibn Asakir. Allah the exalted said in Surah An-Naml and Sulayman inherited Dawud and he said oh people we have been taught the speech of birds and we have been given from all things indeed this is the evident favor. This inheritance refers to prophethood and kingship not wealth as Sulayman had other brothers. The messenger of Allah peace be upon him clarified in authentic narrations"

    — Ibn Kathir, Volume 3 — The Sīrah: From the First Revelation to Badr

  3. "Sulayman inquired, “What is the best of deeds? He replied, “Performing the obligatory acts while avoiding the forbidden. Sulayman continued, “What words are the most audible? Abu Hazim said, “The word of truth spoken before someone you fear and hope from. Sulayman asked, “Who among the believers is the wisest? He answered, “A man who acts in obedience to God and invites others to it."

    — Imam al-Ghazali, Book 14: The Lawful and the Unlawful
