Tawakkul fī al-Safar
Definition
Travel is one of the most vivid laboratories for tawakkul — genuine trust in Allah — because it places the traveller in conditions of genuine vulnerability: unfamiliar territory, uncertain provisions, potential danger, and dependence on others whose goodwill cannot be guaranteed. Al-Ghazali argues that the Muslim who travels with genuine tawakkul — making reasonable preparation while holding the outcome lightly, invoking Allah at every transition, and releasing anxiety about what lies ahead — is practising one of the most demanding and most growth-producing forms of trust. The road that teaches tawakkul is a spiritual curriculum in itself.
