Tawakkul wal-Māl
Definition
Tawakkul in the domain of wealth means genuinely trusting that Allah is the Provider and that what leaves the hand in lawful generosity will not diminish what Allah has apportioned. The miser does not have tawakkul — their compulsive accumulation reveals a deep anxiety that Allah's provision is not reliable, that security must be manufactured through hoarding rather than received through trust. Al-Ghazali argues that every act of genuine generosity is simultaneously a practice of tawakkul — an assertion through action that Allah can be trusted to provide, and that the security the miser seeks through accumulation is actually found in the divine promise of care for the generous.
