Wird

ورد
Definition

A daily portion of dhikr — a fixed, committed schedule of remembrance that the believer maintains consistently as a spiritual discipline, whether they feel like it or not. Ibn al-Qayyim emphasises the wird as one of the most important practical tools for making dhikr a genuine feature of the believer's life rather than an occasional practice dependent on mood or circumstance. The Companions maintained daily portions of Quran, dhikr, and prayer that they guarded jealously. The concept of wird teaches that spiritual discipline, like physical discipline, requires regularity and commitment — consistency being more important than intensity in building the habit of remembrance that eventually becomes the heart's natural state.

As understood in the classical tradition of Imam al-Ghazali and the scholars of his school.
