Yaqīn
Definition
Yaqin is the highest degree of knowledge — not merely intellectual assent but unshakeable, heart-deep certainty that functions the same whether one is alone or observed, healthy or sick, prosperous or in poverty. Al-Ghazali distinguishes between ʿilm al-yaqin (knowledge-based certainty, like knowing fire burns from study), ʿayn al-yaqin (sight-based certainty, like seeing fire), and haqq al-yaqin (truth-realized certainty, like being in the fire). His goal for the reader of the Ihya is that their faith would rise from the first level toward the second and third.
