Zakariyya

How the scholars use Zakariyya.

1. "O you of unmanned resolve, where are you, and the road is a road wherein Adam laboured, and for whose sake Nuh wailed; on it the Friend of God was hurled into the fire, and Isma'il was laid down for the slaughter; Yusuf was sold for a paltry price and lingered in prison some few years; Zakariyya was sawn asunder with the saw, and the chaste and continent lord Yahya was slain; Ayyub endured affliction, and Dawud's weeping passed all measure; and there walked among the wild beasts and Muhammad bore poverty and every kind of injury. And you — you swagger about in amusement and play."

2. "and Zakariyya al-Saji also related it from the hadith of Abd al-Wahhab ibn Musa ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Umar ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and from al-Zuhri as well, from Abu al-Zinad, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Aisha, who said: My father went out with his sword drawn, riding upon his mount, toward the valley of al-Qassa. Then Ali ibn Abi Talib came and took hold of the reins of his mount and said: Where are you going, O successor of the Messenger of God?"

3. "Sila then told his companions, "If you had taken him harshly, he would have said, 'No, and no honor to you,' and cursed you." Muhammad ibn Zakariyya al-Ghallabi recounted an incident involving Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aishah. One evening, after the Maghrib prayer, Ibn Aishah was on his way home when he came across a drunken young man from Quraysh who had seized a woman."
