Nature is inclined to imitation and emulation; individuals unconsciously adopt the traits of those they accompany. Keeping company with someone greedy for this world stirs one's own greed, whereas keeping company with an ascetic inspires detachment from this world."

Therefore, associating with those who pursue worldly matters is discouraged, while associating with those focused on the hereafter is recommended. "support the oppressed, aid those in distress, assist the weak, guide the lost, return greetings, give to those who ask, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be mindful of where you spit — not towards the Qibla, nor to your right, but to your left or under your left foot. Do not socialize with the kings, but if you do, the etiquette is to avoid slander, shun lies, keep secrets, have few requests, refine words, be proper in speech, talk of royal conduct, avoid jesting, and be very cautious with them even if they show friendliness."
