"Then, take a large stone with the right hand, the private part with the left, and wipe the stone over the private part, moving the left hand to wipe three times in three areas, or use three stones or three areas on a wall, until no moisture is detected. If this is achieved with two wipes, perform a third; it is obligatory if one limits oneself to stones."

"This principle supports the odd number in acts like using stones for cleaning after relieving oneself. He did not restrict to three applications, although three is an odd number because the left eye would receive only one, and usually, the roots of the eyelids aren't fully covered with kohl by just one application. The right eye was given three because preference must entail oddness, and the right deserves preference through more applications."
