Madārij al-Sālikīn

'The Ranks of the Divine Seekers' — Ibn al-Qayyim's monumental commentary on al-Harawī's Manāzil al-Sāʾirīn: a station-by-station map of the soul's journey to Allah, unfolded through the letters of 'Iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn' — from awakening, repentance and self-reckoning up through love, longing and contentment. The masterwork of Islamic spiritual psychology.

Madārij al-Sālikīn — Ibn al-Qayyim's masterwork on the stations of the soul's journey to Allah — is available as an English audiobook series on Joyful Muslims, translated in-house from the Arabic. Free to start listening.

About this work

What is Madārij al-Sālikīn?

Madārij al-Sālikīn — "The Stations of the Wayfarers" — is Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya's commentary (d. 751 AH / 1350 CE) on a single verse the believer recites at least seventeen times a day: "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help." From that verse he draws the whole road of the soul's journey to Allah, station by station: repentance, patience, gratitude, hope, fear, trust, love.

It is built on Manāzil al-Sāʾirīn, the terse classic of Shaykh al-Harawī of Herat — but Ibn al-Qayyim's commentary became the greater book: generous where the original is compressed, and honest about the traps of the path at every station.

In English, Madārij has been almost unreachable: printed translations cover only part of the work, and no audiobook of it existed at all — until now.

Verified August 2026: we could not find any other English audiobook of Madārij al-Sālikīn — on Audible, on podcast platforms, or anywhere else. Printed English editions cover only part of the work.
