Al-Bāqī

How the scholars invoke Al-Bāqī.

1. "informed us through my reading to him. The preserver Abdul Ghani licensed us, and Muhammad ibn al-Baqi informed us. Abu al-Hassan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Khateeb, Abu al-Husayn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bishrin, al-Husayn ibn Safwan, and Abdullah ibn Muhammad informed me. Abu Abdullah al-Tamimi spoke of his father. I saw Hamad ibn Salama in a dream and asked, What did your Lord do with you? He replied, Good. I asked, What? He said, He told me. You often wearied yourself. Today I extend your comfort, and the comfort of those wearied for my sake. Well done, well done. What have you prepared for them?"

2. "and her longing for him. There is disagreement as to her age at the time: it is said twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty, or thirty-five — this last being far-fetched, while those before it are nearer the truth, and God knows best. She was buried in al-Baqi, and she was the first whose bier was screened from view. It is established in the Sahih that Ali enjoyed a standing among the people during Fatima's lifetime; when she died, he sought to give his pledge of allegiance to al-Siddiq and did so, as is related in al-Bukhari."

3. "was a prominent leader among the emigrants and a pious friend of Allah. He was blessed to pass away during the lifetime of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Abu al-Sa'ib, may Allah be pleased with him, was the first to be buried in al-Baqi'. It is narrated that when the Prophet buried Uthman ibn Maz'un, he asked a man to bring a rock to mark the grave. The man struggled to lift it, so the Prophet himself carried it and placed it at the head of the grave."

4. "He was struck on the Day of the Trench in the fifth year of Hijrah and died from that wound at the age of thirty-seven. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prayed over him, and he was buried in Al-Baqi'. Ibn Sa'd narrated that when they reached Sa'd's grave, four men descended into it: Al-Harith ibn Aws, Usayd ibn Hudayr, Abu Na'ilah Silkan, and Salamah ibn Salam ibn Waqsh, while the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stood by."
