Al-Ghaffār
الْغَفَّارُThe Oft-Forgiving
Al-Ghaffār (الْغَفَّارُ) is the 14th of the 99 Names of Allah. It means "The Oft-Forgiving". In the Qurʾān it occurs in Ṭāhā 20:82.

"wish. Indeed, what has appeared to me from you was unexpected, that you did not tend to my kin and my affairs. You rise to him with a poisoned spear. Cursed be your actions, O Abu al-Ghaffar. If it were not for modesty and the fact that your people are neighbors, you would have known what you have revealed of my secrets. Then the young man replied, saying, Did you intend to elevate and diminish our mention in a manner that is not disgraceful, O Abu al-Izzar? There was no leader among them in the past. Indeed, the best are the sons of the best. So direct your intention, O Muakbir, for indeed the one who grants refuge is"

"His names "Al-Barr" (The Beneficent), "Al-Muhsin" (The Doer of Good), "Al-Mu'ti" (The Giver), "Al-Mannan" (The Bestower) and others necessitate their effects and requirements. If this is understood, then among His names, exalted be He, are "Al-Ghaffar" (The Forgiving), "At-Tawwab" (The Acceptor of Repentance), "Al-Afuww" (The Pardoner), which must have related matters. There must be a sin to forgive, a repentance to accept, and crimes to pardon."

"Abu Darda may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that he asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about the Qur'an, and he said, The speech of Allah, not created. "Al-Baihaqi reported it from al-Hakim, who narrated it from al-Assam, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-San'ani, from Yahya ibn Abi Bakr, from Ab al-Ghaffar ibn al-Qasim, from Jafar ibn Muhammad, from his father, who said that the messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stated, Indeed, Allah brought me forth from lawful marriages and did not bring me forth from illicit relations."
