How the scholars invoke Al-Wadūd.

  1. "The fifth level is 'Al-Widad', which is the purest form of love, with ten degrees, and its essence and core. 'Al-Wadud' is one of the names of the Lord, the Exalted. There are two sayings about it: One is that it means 'the beloved'. البُخَارِيّ, may اللّٰه have mercy on him, said in his صَحِيح: 'Al-Wadud' means 'the beloved'."

    — Ibn al-Qayyim, Volume Three

  2. "loves the repentant, and endears them. The share of the repentant is to receive forgiveness from Him. According to the first saying, 'Al-Wadud' in a sense is the secret of pairing, meaning the pairing of 'Al-Wadud' with 'Al-Ghafur' invites the love of the servants for Him and their love for Him by the name 'Al-Ghafur'."

    — Ibn al-Qayyim, Volume Three
