Ar-Raḥmān

How the scholars invoke Ar-Raḥmān.

1. "killing them for your uncle al-Fakih, may Allah fight you." 'Umar also criticized Khalid, to which Khalid replied, "I took them for the killing of your father." 'Abd al-Rahman responded, "You are lying. I killed my father's killer with my own hands, and if I had not, you would be killing Muslims because of my father in the time of ignorance." Khalid then asked, "Who told you they had embraced Islam?" 'Abd al-Rahman replied, "All the members of the expedition." Khalid said, "The Messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came to me with orders to attack them, so I attacked." 'Abd al-Rahman responded, "You have lied about the Messenger of Allah.""

2. ""The best among you are those who are best to my wives." As a result, Abd al-Rahman bequeathed a garden valued at four hundred thousand for them. Abd Allah ibn Ja'far al-Zuhri narrated that Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar reported Abd al-Rahman sold a piece of land to Uthman for forty thousand dinars and distributed it among the poor of Banu Zuhra, the emigrants, and the Mothers of the Believers. Al-Miswar brought Aisha her share, and she asked who sent it. Upon hearing it was from Abd al-Rahman, she said, "Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say,"

3. "Uthman said, 'No one can claim superiority over this elder in both migrations.'" When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, migrated, he established a bond of brotherhood between 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf and 'Uthman. 'Abd al-Rahman offered: "I have two gardens, choose whichever you wish." But 'Uthman replied: "Rather, guide me to the market." Over time, 'Abd al-Rahman's wealth increased significantly until he had seven hundred camels carrying wheat, flour, and food. When these camels entered Medina, the commotion reached Aisha."

4. "is more beloved to me than that." It is narrated that Uthman suffered from nosebleeds and called Humran, saying, "Write a covenant for Abd al-Rahman after me." Humran did so and informed Abd al-Rahman, saying, "Good news! Uthman has written the covenant for you after him." Abd al-Rahman then stood between the grave and the pulpit, supplicated, and said, "O Allah, if it is from Uthman's appointment of me to this matter, then take my life before it." He did not last more than six months before Allah took him."
