Volume Two opens on the page Ibn al-Qayyim is most quoted for — ten things a person wastes and never counts: knowledge not acted on, a deed with no sincerity in it, wealth neither enjoyed nor sent ahead, a heart empty of love, an hour that made up nothing. From there he moves through the soul's whole terrain: the four pillars of unbelief, the limits that turn every virtue into a vice at either edge, why a lie corrupts the liar's own sight before it reaches anyone else. Seventy-six sittings, each short enough to take in one, each heavy enough to stay.

The author is deceased well before 1924, placing the original work firmly in the public domain worldwide. The translation that follows is an original editorial work of Joyful Muslims.
