Mujāhadah
مجاهدةSpiritual struggle — the sustained, active effort to resist the nafs and its desires. Ibn al-Qayyim insists repeatedly that the heart does not heal passively: it requires deliberate, consistent engagement. Mujahada means choosing the difficult thing because Allah has commanded it, resisting the comfortable path that the nafs prefers, and returning to the struggle even after failures. It is not a single battle but a lifestyle — a daily decision to pursue what is higher over what is easier. Allah's promise is that those who strive in His path will be guided to the paths that lead to Him (Quran 29:69), making mujahada the door through which all other cures enter.
As understood in the classical tradition of Ibn al-Qayyim and the scholars of his school.
