Al-Ḥakam

How the scholars invoke Al-Ḥakam.

1. "It is narrated that al-Mu'tamir was present with al-Hakam ibn Abd al-Malik when the truth came to him. He prayed, O Allah! his dying throes for he was such-and-such, mentioning his virtues. Al-Hakam awoke and asked, Who is speaking? Al-Mutamir replied, I am. Al-Hakam then said, The angel of death, peace be upon him, tells me that with every generous soul he is gentle. And then he passed away."

3. "Ibn Adi, Abu Ya'la, and Al-Tabarani narrated from his hadith, "Say 'There is no deity but Allah' abundantly before it is prevented from you. In this narration is Ibn Wardan. Abu Shaykh narrated from Al-Hakam bin Umair Al-Thumali, a mursal hadith, "When you say, 'There is no deity but Allah,' it is the word of monotheism. Al-Hakam is considered weak. Abu Bakr bin Al-Dahhak narrated from Ibn Mas'ud regarding the response to the adhan, "O Allah, Lord of this call that is responded to, the true invitation, and the sincerely spoken word."

4. "This was reported by Abdullah bin Mughaffal, and Tirmidhi referred to it as rare, although its chain is sound. The hadith on sprinkling water after ablution, known as "intidah," was reported by Sufyan bin Al-Hakam Al-Thaqafi or Al-Hakam bin Sufyan. Tirmidhi and Ibn Abdul Bar called it unsettled.
