Al-Ḥayy
الْحَيُّThe Ever-Living
Al-Ḥayy (الْحَيُّ) is the 62nd of the 99 Names of Allah. It means "The Ever-Living". In the Qurʾān it occurs in Al-Baqarah 2:255.

"His name "Al-Hamid" (The Praiseworthy), "Al-Majid" (The Glorious) prevents leaving a person neglected, uncommanded, and unprohibited, unrewarded, and unpunished. Similarly, His name "Al-Hakim" (The Wise) rejects this, as does His name "Al-Malik" (The King) and "Al-Hayy" (The Living), which prevents Him from being inactive, for the essence of life is action. Every living being is active, and His being the Creator, Sustainer is a necessity of His life and its requirements."

"It also implies the essence alone and the hearing alone. Additionally, it indicates the name "Al-Hayy" (The Ever-Living) and the attribute of life through necessity. This applies to all His names and attributes. However, people differ in their understanding of necessity and its absence, leading to disagreements in many names, attributes, and rulings."
