What is al-ʿAqīda al-Ṭaḥāwiyya?
In tenth-century Egypt, Imam Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭaḥāwī (d. 321 AH / 933 CE) wrote down, point by point, what Muslims believe: about Allah, His names, His speech, prophethood, destiny, and the life to come. He kept it short and exact on purpose — a statement the whole Ummah could agree on and memorize.
It worked. For a thousand years, al-ʿAqīda al-Ṭaḥāwiyya has been the most widely accepted short statement of Sunni belief — studied in every land, commented on by generations of scholars, and memorized by students to this day. At thirty-six minutes, it is a creed you can hear in one sitting.
