Duʿāʾ for grief and loss
On hearing of loss or trial, the believer returns to Allah. These are the words the Sunnah gives for grief — “to Allah we belong and to Him we return” — and for the heart that feels overwhelmed by it.
"Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in this trial, and replace it for me with something better."
"Allah is enough for us, and the best of those who are trusted."
"There is no god but You — glory be to You! I have indeed been among the wrongdoers."
